The majority of Tier 4 Visa refusals are down to students either having insufficient funds to study in the UK, or them being unable to adequately prove that they do have sufficient funds. UKVI have pretty strict rules surrounding proof of funds, and the documents students have to provide when applying for their Tier 4 visa. You can see a full run-down of all the documents you need when applying for your visa here, or take a look at our step by step guide to applying for your visa online

The below flow chart is designed for your guidance in checking whether your bank statement meets all the conditions set forth by UKVI, and will be accepted by them as proof of sufficient funds to study in the UK. This is only in regards to Personal Bank Statements, please note, UKVI do accept other forms of financial evidence. This will have different requirements, so it is always best to double check on the Government website, or contact our team on if you're still not sure.

Things to note:

- Personal bank statements from certain international banks cannot be used as financial evidence in your Tier 4 Visa application. Again, if you are unsure, we recommend you consult the Home Office Tier 4 Policy Guidance handbook, or get in touch with your Team AppUK Education Advisor.

- If your funds are not in British Pounds Sterling (GBP), you must use the currency exchange rates on the OANDA website on the day you submit your application and write the amount in GBP next to the closing balance.
